Recreational Pilot Licence

The Recreational Pilot Licence (RPL) allows you to fly for recreational purposes as pilot in command of a light, single-engine aircraft.

Although you can start learning to fly at any age, the minimum age for obtaining your RPL is 16 years of age (however you may be authorised to fly solo at age 15).

The minimum required flight time to obtain your RPL is 25 hours (20 hours of dual instruction, 5 hours solo as pilot in command).

Illawarra Flight Services offers the following additional endorsements to the RPL:

  • Controlled Airspace Endorsement

  • Controlled Aerodrome Endorsement

  • Recreational Navigation Endorsement

  • Flight Radio Endorsement
